MONROVIA – RABAT, MOROCCO – The Foreign Minister of the Republic of Madagascar has reaffirmed his country’s support for Morocco’s territorial integrity while calling for stronger African cooperation during a joint press conference with Nasser Bourita ahead of the official opening of the Paris Francophone Conference on Peace and Security.
The press conference was held at Morocco’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Rabat, where the Malagasy Foreign Minister praised the Kingdom of Morocco for its hospitality and leadership in promoting peace and security across Africa, particularly through the Second Conference on Peacekeeping in Francophone Environments.
Madam Alice N’ diaye described Morocco’s role in peacekeeping as a reflection of the Kingdom’s “constant and remarkable commitment” to maintaining stability on the African continent.
The minister also emphasized the longstanding diplomatic ties between Madagascar and Morocco, noting that bilateral relations have grown stronger since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1994 and the opening of embassies in both capitals.
According to her, the visit was intended to deliver a message from the President of Madagascar aimed at giving “new momentum” to the existing cooperation between the two African nations.
The Malagasy official expressed appreciation for Morocco’s support toward Madagascar’s national “Re-Foundation” process, which focuses on addressing urgent social and economic challenges affecting the population. She highlighted key sectors, including energy, agriculture, and youth employability, as areas where Morocco’s expertise could significantly benefit Madagascar.
He further praised the contributions of the Mohammed VI Foundation, particularly its involvement in structural development projects in Madagascar and Antsirabe in the areas of education, vocational training, and healthcare.
“These tangible achievements are more than just infrastructure; they are a testament to a South-South partnership that is taking on a unique significance in our country,” the minister stated.
The minister underscored the importance of strengthening South-South cooperation among African nations, stressing the need for African countries to utilize expertise and resources available within the continent to advance development goals.
On the issue of the Moroccan Sahara, Madagascar reiterated its commitment to the principle of territorial integrity for United Nations member states and expressed support for Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara region.
The Malagasy Foreign Minister welcomed the adoption of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2797, describing Morocco’s autonomy initiative as a pragmatic basis for negotiations and a viable solution to the long-standing dispute.
She added that Madagascar recognizes the autonomy plan proposed by Morocco as part of a growing international consensus driven by the leadership of King Mohammed VI.
The joint press conference forms part of diplomatic engagements preceding the opening of the Paris Francophone Conference on Peace and Security, which brings together officials and stakeholders to discuss peacekeeping and security cooperation within Francophone regions.
