MONROVIA – President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to attracting credible investors, as he welcomed a high-level delegation from Australian mining and green energy company Fortescue, led by its Executive Chairman, Dr. Andrew Forrest.
Speaking during a dinner hosted for the delegation at his Rehab Community Office on Sunday, President Boakai said Liberia remains open to partnerships with investors whose goals align with the country’s development agenda and who are committed to delivering lasting benefits for the Liberian people.
The President assured the delegation that his government is fostering a stable, transparent, and investment-friendly environment to encourage responsible investment and sustainable economic growth.
“Let me assure you that during this trip, you will erase whatever memories you may have from any previous visit that was not favorable,” President Boakai said.
He stressed that Liberia’s rich natural resources—including more than 40 percent of the remaining Upper Guinean rainforest in West Africa, vast agricultural land, abundant mineral deposits, and significant blue economy potential—present enormous opportunities for investment.
However, President Boakai emphasized that his administration is focused on working with partners committed to responsible investment, value addition, job creation, and inclusive national development.

“We are prepared to work with people who are serious about making good things happen for our country and our people,” he stated.
For his part, Dr. Forrest said the delegation’s visit is aimed at exploring opportunities for collaboration in agriculture, logistics, and railway infrastructure as part of Fortescue’s broader interest in supporting Liberia’s long-term economic transformation.
He also disclosed that the Minderoo Foundation is interested in partnering with the JNB Foundation to support President Boakai’s vision for sustainable socio-economic development and initiatives that would leave a lasting legacy for future generations.
Dr. Forrest described Liberia as a country with immense untapped economic potential, particularly in its marine resources, which he said could become a major driver of growth if sustainably developed.
“We are here to better understand Liberia’s opportunities and determine how we can help unlock that potential for the benefit of future generations and the Liberian people,” he said.
Fortescue is a global mining, metals, logistics, infrastructure, and green energy company founded by Dr. Forrest. The company is recognized as one of Australia’s leading enterprises and a global leader in shareholder returns. Dr. Forrest also founded the Minderoo Foundation, Australia’s largest philanthropic organization, and Tattarang, one of the country’s largest privately owned investment groups.
