
MONROVIA August 19___The Minister of Justice of Liberia said former Vice president of Liberia, madam Jewel Howard Taylor has been charged with drug trafficking, money laundering and other offenses.
Cllr. Oswald Tweh, also Attorney General if Liberia made the statement at the ministry of Information.
Madam Taylor was arrested early Wednesday at the Robert International Airport while trying to travel to Accra, Ghana for an international conference.
Her arrest forms part of an ongoing investigation into a transnational narcotics network,.
She is ex_wife if former president, Charles Taylor who is serving 50 years in prison in the United Kingdom, for war crimes committed in Sierra Leone .
“There will be no selective justice, political protection, sacred cows or compromise with organized criminality,” the statement said.
He added: “Every person against whom credible and admissible evidence is established will be investigated and prosecuted without fear, favor or political consideration.”
The charges against her also include unlicensed importation of a controlled substance, criminal solicitation and criminal conspiracy, the statement said.
The statement they have also charged in absentia three alleged members of the network, two Croatian nationals and a Ukrainian national, and the government statement said the government would seek their arrest through domestic and international legal channels.
Howard-Taylor served senator during the regime of former president, Madam Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and later served vice president under former President George Weah from January 2018 to January 2024.
Former president Weah is not in the country.
