MONROVIA, LIBERIA — The Government of Liberia says the country’s security agencies are closely monitoring the situation surrounding Liberians recently deported from the United States and other countries.
Executive Mansion Press Secretary Atty. Kula Fofana gave the assurance Friday during the regular Executive Mansion press briefing, amid growing public concerns over the arrival and reintegration of deportees.
Fofana said Liberia’s security apparatus remains coordinated and prepared to respond to any security concerns arising from the deportees’ arrival.
“The security people are on top of everything. At this point, we have one of the best-coordinated security apparatuses in the country,” Fofana told reporters.
She said relevant security and immigration agencies are working together to ensure public safety and compliance with immigration procedures.
The Press Secretary did not provide details on the number of deportees currently in Liberia or disclose specific measures being used by security agencies to monitor the returnees.
Her comments come as concerns grow over the arrival of Liberians deported from the United States and other countries, with questions being raised about their reception, monitoring and reintegration into society.
The government’s assurance is intended to reassure the public that the security situation surrounding the deportees is being handled by the appropriate authorities.
