
MONROVIA – Benghazi, Libya- Efforts to strengthen parliamentary diplomacy and deepen cooperation between African and Asian nations continued on Tuesday as the Speaker of the Libyan House of Representatives and President of the Asian-African Parliamentary Council (AAPC), Counselor Aqilah Saleh, met with a delegation from Liberia’s House of Representatives on the sidelines of the Second Annual AAPC Conference in Benghazi.
The meeting, attended by the First Deputy Speaker of the Asian-African Parliamentary Council, Mr. Saud Al-Hajilan, focused on enhancing legislative cooperation and fostering stronger ties between the parliamentary institutions of both countries. Discussions highlighted the importance of building effective partnerships through parliamentary engagement, dialogue, and mutual collaboration.
During the talks, both sides explored practical avenues for strengthening relations between the Liberian and Libyan legislatures, while also examining regional and international issues of shared concern. The leaders emphasized the need for greater coordination among member states in addressing common challenges and advancing collective development goals.
Leading the Liberian delegation, Hon. Johnson S.N. Williams Sr. welcomed the opportunity to engage with the Libyan parliamentary leadership and reaffirmed Liberia’s commitment to promoting stronger bilateral and multilateral parliamentary relations. He stressed the importance of legislative diplomacy in advancing peace, sustainable development, and international cooperation across Africa and Asia.
The meeting reflects the growing role of parliamentary institutions in fostering international partnerships and creating platforms for dialogue on issues affecting nations across both continents.
The Second Annual Conference of the Asian-African Parliamentary Council has convened parliamentary leaders, lawmakers, and delegates from numerous African and Asian countries.
