MONROVIA – President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has reaffirmed Liberia’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and advancing broader African development following a high-level meeting with the country’s Foreign Minister.
The Liberian leader on Tuesday received a delegation led by DRC Foreign Minister Thérèse Kayikwamba Wagner at the Executive Mansion in Monrovia. Discussions centered on expanding economic cooperation, enhancing trade relations, infrastructure development, and promoting stronger continental partnerships.
The visiting delegation included DRC Ambassador to Liberia Marie-Hélène Okitundu Ayaki Omba, Director for African Zone and the Middle East at the DRC Foreign Ministry Christian Ndinda Diluanzodila, and Political Counselor Valentin Albert Makongo.
According to the Executive Mansion, the delegation briefed President Boakai on ongoing discussions involving natural resources, trade, and infrastructure development. The talks also explored prospects for direct flights to the United States and opportunities to deepen economic engagement between the two nations.
Welcoming the delegation, President Boakai emphasized the importance of direct engagement among African leaders and governments, noting that such interactions are essential to fostering mutual understanding and driving the continent’s progress.
The President also provided guidance on strengthening cooperation in key sectors, including transportation, agriculture, and multilateral affairs. He highlighted Liberia’s upcoming tenure on the United Nations Security Council as an opportunity to advocate for African interests and shared development priorities on the global stage.
Liberia’s Foreign Minister, Sara Beysolow Nyanti, described the visit as a significant step toward deepening the longstanding relationship between Liberia and the DRC. She said the engagement would further cement the cordial ties that have existed between the two countries.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Foreign Minister Wagner described the discussions as productive and encouraging.
“We’ve just come out of a very fruitful meeting with His Excellency. The instructions and guidance that he gave us were very motivating, especially in pushing us to look further in our partnership on bilateral issues,” she said.
Wagner added that the meeting had provided renewed momentum for both countries to advance cooperation in the areas identified during the discussions. She praised the leadership of Presidents of Liberia and the DRC for their commitment to strengthening partnerships and promoting development across various sectors.
The visit underscores growing efforts by African nations to enhance regional cooperation, expand economic opportunities, and pursue shared development goals through stronger diplomatic engagement.
