The Joint Legislative Public Accounts and Expenditure Committee of Liberia’s 55th Legislature is set to conduct a public hearing Wednesday, August 12, 2026, into findings contained in the Auditor General’s Compliance Audit Report on the Roberts International Airport (RIA) Road Project.
The hearing is scheduled for 11 a.m. in the Chamber of the House of Representatives and will cover the period from April 1, 2021, to April 30, 2025.
According to a public service announcement issued by the Legislature, the hearing forms part of the National Legislature’s constitutional oversight responsibility to promote transparency, accountability and sound financial management in the use of public resources.
The Joint Committee has invited former and current officials of the Ministry of Public Works and the Liberia Airport Authority (LAA) who were involved in managing or supervising the RIA Road Project to provide testimony on the findings and recommendations contained in the Auditor General’s report.
Among those expected to appear are former Managing Director of the Liberia Airport Authority Jero H. Mends-Cole; former RIA/LAA Comptroller Corneh M. Corneh; former Managing Director of RIA Bishop J. Allen Klayee; former LAA Chief Financial Officer George Daweh Yuoh; Deputy Managing Director for Operations Egon Kuiah; and Jonathan C. Enders of Technical Services at LAA.
Also expected to appear is LAA Deputy Managing Director for Administration John Z. Buway.
From the Ministry of Public Works, the committee has invited former Deputy Minister for Administration Joseph Todd and former Public Works Minister Ruth Coker Collins, among others.
The hearing is expected to provide lawmakers with an opportunity to question officials about issues raised in the Auditor General’s compliance audit and to seek clarification on the report’s findings and recommendations concerning the RIA Road Project.
The Legislature said the exercise is intended to strengthen public accountability and ensure that concerns identified through the audit process receive appropriate scrutiny.
The Joint Committee has also encouraged members of the public, civil society organizations, development partners, government institutions and the media to attend and observe the proceedings.
The invitation, according to the Legislature, is intended to promote public participation and transparency in the oversight of government projects and the management of public funds.
The hearing is expected to place renewed attention on the implementation and financial management of the RIA Road Project, as lawmakers examine the issues raised in the Auditor General’s report and hear directly from officials who were responsible for the project during the period under review.
