FISH TOWN-A long-delayed school project in Fish Town has received a major boost after Cllr. Kunkunyon Wleh Teh began providing construction materials and logistical support to facilitate its completion.
The Fish Town Muslim School project, which was initiated in 2017, has remained incomplete for years due to financial and logistical constraints faced by the local Muslim community.
The prolonged delay has hindered efforts to provide students with an improved learning environment.
Determined to help bring the project to completion, Cllr. Teh has launched a support initiative by supplying essential construction materials and safety equipment to accelerate the remaining work.
According to the Councilor’s Engineer and Project Manager, Mr. Ben Collins, rehabilitation and completion works officially commenced on July 16 and are expected to be finalized before July 26, provided construction progresses according to schedule.
Mr. Collins said the Councilor has already delivered 100 bags of cement, steel rods, roofing materials, and other critical building supplies required to complete the school.
Beyond the construction materials, Cllr. Teh has also provided personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety gear for workers, to promote safe working conditions throughout the construction period.
Mr. Collins praised the Councilor’s intervention, describing it as timely and impactful. He said the support has renewed confidence that the school, which has remained unfinished for nearly nine years, will finally be completed.
Community members and leaders of the Muslim community have welcomed the initiative, expressing gratitude for the Councilor’s commitment to education and community development. They said completing the project will provide children with a safer and more conducive learning environment while expanding access to quality education in Fish Town.
Once completed, the Fish Town Muslim School is expected to serve as an important educational facility for the growing community and stand as a testament to collaborative efforts aimed at improving educational opportunities in River Gee County.
