Unity Party (UP) National Chairman Luther Tarpeh has called on President Joseph Nyuma Boakai to immediately reshuffle his Cabinet, saying several ministers and senior government officials are failing to meet the expectations of the Liberian people.
Speaking at a party gathering, Tarpeh disclosed that the ruling party intends to compile and submit a list of underperforming ministers, directors, and other senior government officials to President Boakai for possible dismissal.
“There are some members in our government who are not performing well. We will do the list and submit it to your noble office. We want to see some ministers replaced immediately. We want to see some directors replaced. The nation must thrive. We cannot allow non-performing members of our government to be the weak link in our service delivery to the people of Liberia,” Tarpeh said.
He argued that, as the Boakai administration approaches the midpoint of its first term, a Cabinet reshuffle has become necessary to improve government performance and public service delivery.
“As we march majestically toward the end of the first half of our administration, we are calling on Mr. President to reshuffle the Cabinet. This is long overdue,” he added.
Beyond government performance, Tarpeh also expressed concern over the pace of the ongoing investigation into the June 8, 2026 seizure of cocaine valued at approximately US$19.2 million.
He urged the Joint Security to expedite the investigation, warning that prolonged delays could undermine public confidence in the government’s commitment to justice and accountability.
“We want to call on the joint national security agencies to expedite the investigative process. We are tired of waiting for the investigation to be complete. Any further delay will make the public misconstrue your professional investigative ability. The Liberian people demand answers right now and not later,” he stated.
Tarpeh further insisted that anyone found responsible in the case should be prosecuted regardless of their position or political influence.
“Anyone whose hand is caught in the cookie jar must face the weight of the law. Anyone, no matter the status, no matter the position and no matter the influence, we are going to lock you up,” he declared.
The remarks come amid growing public scrutiny of the government’s performance and increasing calls for greater accountability, improved service delivery, and transparency in the handling of major criminal investigations, including the country’s largest reported drug seizure in recent years.
President Boakai has not publicly responded to the ruling party chairman’s comments.
