The Barclayville Marketing Association has received a major financial boost following a donation of L$1 million from Grand Kru County son and senatorial aspirant Hon. John Chea, a contribution intended to strengthen the association’s operations and improve the livelihoods of local marketers.
The donation was officially presented on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, by Mr. Theophilus Geeply, a representative of Hon. Chea’s office, during a ceremony attended by leaders of the marketing association, community representatives, and prominent citizens of Barclayville.
Speaking during the presentation, Mr. Geeply said the contribution fulfills a commitment Hon. Chea recently made to the leadership of the Barclayville Marketing Association after listening to the challenges confronting marketers in the county.
He explained that the financial assistance is aimed at empowering local traders, improving their business activities, and enhancing the overall operations of the association.
”This donation reflects Hon. John Chea’s commitment to supporting the hardworking marketers who play a vital role in sustaining the local economy,” Mr. Geeply said.
He urged the association’s leadership to ensure that the money is managed transparently and used strictly for its intended purpose so that every marketer benefits from the initiative.
Mr. Geeply further emphasized that prudent management of the funds would inspire Hon. Chea and his office to provide additional support in the future.
He encouraged market leaders to invest the money in sustainable projects capable of generating long-term benefits for members of the association.
Receiving the donation, officials and members of the Barclayville Marketing Association expressed profound appreciation to Hon. Chea, describing the contribution as timely and significant, especially at a time when marketers continue to face numerous financial and operational challenges.
The association noted that over the years it had appealed to several county officials and stakeholders for assistance with little or no response.
Members said Hon. Chea’s intervention demonstrates genuine concern for the welfare of ordinary citizens and the economic development of Grand Kru County.
”We are deeply grateful for this generous support. It gives us hope that our voices are being heard and that someone is willing to invest in the people who keep our local economy moving,” Ma Lucy Toe one of the association representatives said during the ceremony.
The marketers also appealed to other sons and daughters of Grand Kru County, as well as public officials and development partners, to emulate Hon. Chea’s example by supporting initiatives that improve the livelihoods of local business owners and strengthen community development.
The association pledged to manage the L$1 million responsibly, assuring donors and members that the funds would be used solely for projects that benefit the entire organization and contribute to its long-term growth.
Despite the welcome financial support, marketers acknowledged that the Barclayville General Market continues to struggle with major infrastructure deficiencies.
Among the most pressing concerns are the lack of adequate warehouse facilities for storing goods, an insufficient number of market tables for vendors, and other conditions that limit business expansion.
Association members expressed hope that government authorities, development partners, and private citizens will continue investing in the market’s infrastructure to create a safer, more organized, and business-friendly environment for traders.
The donation has been widely welcomed by community members, many of whom believe it represents an important investment in grassroots economic empowerment.
For many marketers in Barclayville, Hon. John Chea’s L$1 million contribution is more than a financial donation, it is a vote of confidence in the resilience and potential of the county’s local business community and a call for greater collaboration in advancing sustainable development.
