A joint committee of the Liberian Senate has expressed satisfaction with the operational capacity, technological infrastructure, and service delivery systems of Liberia Traffic Management Incorporated (LTMI) following a comprehensive inspection of the company’s facilities.
The assessment, conducted amid ongoing public discussions surrounding LTMI’s concession agreement with the Government of Liberia, brought together members of the Senate committee, officials from the Ministry of Transport, and representatives of the National Bureau of Concessions (NBC). The delegation was led by Senate Committee Chairman Senator Prince K. Moye.
According to Senator Moye, the visit was intended to provide lawmakers with a firsthand understanding of LTMI’s operations, investments, and contributions to Liberia’s transportation management sector. The committee toured several key departments within the facility, including vehicle registration services, driver’s licensing operations, traffic monitoring units, data management centers, and other technological platforms supporting transportation administration across the country.
During the visit, LTMI officials provided detailed presentations on the company’s technological innovations, operational procedures, and efforts to improve efficiency and service delivery for the Liberian public. The lawmakers were also briefed on the systems currently being utilized to modernize transportation management and streamline public services.
Speaking to reporters after the inspection, Senator Moye described the facility as impressive, highlighting its level of organization, modern infrastructure, and advanced technological capabilities. He noted that the visit enabled committee members to independently assess the company’s performance and gain a clearer perspective on its operations.
“The visit has allowed us to see the investments that have been made and the systems that are currently in place. It gives us a better perspective as we continue our oversight responsibilities and review the concession agreement,” Senator Moye stated.
While commending LTMI’s operational standards, Senator Moye emphasized that the inspection does not mark the conclusion of the Senate’s review of the concession agreement. He reaffirmed the committee’s commitment to working with relevant government institutions to identify and address any concerns or shortcomings that may exist within the arrangement.
The Senate’s inspection comes at a time when public debate continues regarding certain aspects of LTMI’s concession and its role in managing critical transportation services throughout Liberia. In response to these concerns, Senator Moye assured citizens that the committee’s review process would remain transparent, objective, and focused on protecting the national interest.
He further disclosed that findings from the inspection, along with recommendations arising from subsequent reviews, will be compiled into a formal report to be submitted to the Senate Plenary for deliberation and possible legislative action.
LTMI currently operates under a 25-year concession agreement with the Government of Liberia. The agreement, signed in September 2018 and ratified by the Legislature in December of the same year, authorizes the company to finance, develop, operate, maintain, and eventually transfer Liberia’s vehicle and traffic management system to the government at the expiration of the concession period.
The outcome of the Senate’s ongoing review is expected to play an important role in shaping future legislative discussions on the concession agreement and the broader modernization of Liberia’s transportation sector.
