The National Elections Commission (NEC) has commenced a final review of its 2026–2030 Implementation Plan as part of efforts to strengthen the institution’s preparedness for Liberia’s 2029 General Elections.
The review exercise, which began Wednesday at the Commission’s headquarters in Monrovia, brought together NEC Chairperson Jonathan K. Weedor, fellow Commissioners, departmental directors, and sectional heads to validate the implementation framework that will guide the Commission’s operations over the next five years.
According to the NEC, the exercise is intended to ensure that the Implementation Plan effectively translates the Commission’s Strategic Plan (2026–2030) into practical, measurable, and achievable actions.
During the review, participants examined the proposed strategic pillars, goals, key activities, performance targets, implementation timelines, institutional responsibilities, and estimated costs to ensure the plan aligns with the Commission’s constitutional mandate and operational priorities.
The Commission said the Implementation Plan will serve as its operational roadmap, providing a structured framework for implementing strategic objectives, strengthening coordination across departments, monitoring institutional performance, mobilizing resources, and promoting accountability.
The review process also allows technical departments and sectional heads to make final contributions, clarify roles and responsibilities, and ensure that all proposed activities are realistic, practical, and responsive to the Commission’s needs.
Once finalized, the Implementation Plan is expected to guide the implementation of several key reforms under the NEC Strategic Plan, including strengthening electoral governance, enhancing institutional capacity, improving electoral operations, expanding stakeholder engagement and public communication, and advancing legal and policy reforms aimed at deepening Liberia’s democratic and electoral processes.
The Commission described the review as a critical step toward ensuring effective planning and institutional readiness well ahead of the 2029 elections, reaffirming its commitment to conducting credible, transparent, and inclusive electoral processes across the country.
